The final bit of our "grand Welsh tour" was visiting the two preserved lines in Carmarthenshire which were once part of the same line between Carmarthen and Newcastle Emlyn. The similarities end here as one (the Gwili Railway) is standard gauge and had recently been extended to the outskirts of Carmarthen and the other (Teifi Valley) is 2 foot gauge which has been engaged in a struggle for its very existence and only re-started its rail operations in 2016.
