16th July 2013 - Miles and MoreTuesday 16th July 2013 The weekend had passed quickly and all too soon it was time to head back to Frankfurt for the flight back home; of course there was only one way for us to head south – behind 103 235 again thus bringing the our little trip full circle. The 103s have a big following in Germany and the driver from Düsseldorf soon wound it up to full speed on the short journey to Köln where he was relieved by another driver and promptly headed along the platform to take some photos on his mobile phone. The new driver appeared equally keen and Eifeltor yard was passed at a great rate of knots as IC119 took its more usual route this time along the left bank of the river Rhein. Everything appeared to be running well on DB this morning so, to kill time, we stayed on IC119 to Mannheim then caught an ICE back to Frankfurt Airport still with plenty of time to check in. The return flight was to Heathrow rather than Gatwick as that flight was at a more convenient time; not needing to return to the same airport to collect the car is one of the main advantages of using the train for us. So ended another successful trip to Germany, not forgetting Holland, with everything going as planned; especially 218 396 and the 103 – we will be back later in the year. 103 235 at Mannheim Hbf16th July 2013. IC119 07:27 Münster (Westf) Hbf to Innsbruck Hbf.
