These locomotives were built in 1960 by General Motors at La Grange, Illinois and were works numbers 26271 to 26285.
Their are of the classic American switcher design with only one cab and are General Motors designation GL8.
Most locos of this class were fitted with 8-567CR 950hp engines, but 126 tp 129 were re-engined with the more powerful 8-B645E engine of 1100hp from scrapped 'C' class locos though 128 gained the engine from '181' class no. 192.
