Once part of a much more extensive network of lines, the Döllnitzbahn now only runs between Oschatz (between Dresden and Leipzig) and Glossen. The only reason for the survival of the line is to transport schoolchildren, for which the company uses an eclectic selection of locomotives originating from Austria, Poland and the former East Germany to haul various coaches.
The contact for conveying the schoolchildren is due to finish in July 2011 which not only gives a bleak outlook to the Döllnitzbahn GmbH, but seriously threatens the future of the heritage operation "Wilder Robert
" which runs steam trips on some weekends.
