24th April 2012 - A final desperate act24th April 2012
Last day and one last attempt to get some of the elusive locos that we had seen yesterday, it appears that anything that ends up in the carriage sidings at Copenhagen is fair game for getting swapped so we were trying not to get our hopes up too much. The first move was to take ME1504 out to Holbæk to see if we could get a photo of the Nohab loco that was standing outside the rear of the Regionstog shed at this junction station. On Saturday it was partly blocked by a DMU parked in front of it, but our hunch that there would not be so many units hanging round the shed on a weekday proved correct and the loco was duly photted for posterity. MY105 at Holbæk We returned behind ME1504 to the junction station at Roskilde from where we intended to head off to Nykøbing to photograph the Köf shunting loco there. Knowing that the Aarhus “Lyntog” service should be through very shortly, we chose a spot and waited only to be “withered” to use a bashing term when ME1523, which was one of the locos we were looking out for, came past on it – first stop Odense. Resigning ourselves to not getting another new engine before our flight we changed platforms in order to catch the train to Nykøbing when a Copenhagen-bound train pulled into the platform we had just vacated, ME1505, required! Instinct kicked in and we dashed back across, managing to hop on just before the doors closed, thank goodness for Swiss style timings with dwell times at some stations. A perusal of the diagrams revealed that the loco had left Copenhagen for Kalundborg at around the time we were getting up this morning so maybe if we weren’t so lazy we could have got it then however, this is meant to be a holiday; we have enough of getting up early to go to work! ME1523 at Roskilde Now that we no longer had time to visit Nykøbing before our flight it was a case of make it up as you go along so we decided to have a further trip to Roskilde, with an ME of course, to spend 30 minutes or so taking pictures before catching another ME back to Copenhagen. This proved a worthwhile exercise as we saw a couple of freights and one of the very troublesome IC4 units which was presumably on a test run of some sort. 5644 at Roskilde Our final ME for the trip was 1537 which was taken back to Østerport where we then decided on a trip to Nivå which would enable a final look at the shed and carriage sidings and mean that we could get a train straight back to the airport from there. As a footnote, we found out that BA stopped flying from London City to Copenhagen in late May 2012 so next time (we hope there will be a next time but probably not this year) we will have to suffer flying from Heathrow (hate the place!) or try Easy Jet from Gatwick or Stansted which appears to be the only other option.
