13th February 2012 - A final flingMonday 13th February 2012 Last full day so we decided to “go for it” and try to cover as much as possible; we had toyed with the idea of a visit to Prague but the thought of traipsing round an unfamiliar place in the bitter cold and without Czech currency did not really appeal. If the weather had been better we could probably have had a pleasant couple of hours wandering round and taking some pictures. We caught the Prague train anyway, not going to turn down a new “ALEX” 223 with only three still to get and there was a nice break at Furth im Wald before the first train coming the other way, just enough not to get too cold and there was a pair of Czech “goggles” locos on a freight to phot as a bonus. 753 768 and 753 769 at Furth i Wald The loco on the return was also a “newbie”, only one to get now! We changed at Schwandorf in order to head towards München to try our luck on the ALEX 183s again only for one of the two that were dud for us to appear. A move was quickly concocted that would see us cover another two of these locos and fit in a break for supplies; suitably warmed by a nice hot drink we went onto the platform for the first one and it was 183 003 for the second time this trip! We got on any way as the next one was bound to be required and were duly rewarded with 183 004 from Neufahrn and a bonus photo of a freight. 185 539 at Neufahrn (Niederbay) There wasn’t much in the way of new locos at München, but a 111 was spied and taken to a station where we could cross over and return. This was Paindorf, a real “centre of the universe” place – think home counties village with station for commuters, like Cheddington on the West Coast Mainline for example. Happily, it also turned out to be a good place for photos but no freights passed during the short time we were there. ICE at Paindorf Back at München at a loose end, we decided to end our trip with a small “scratch fest” for new locos and returned to Nürnberg for this as there was far more choice on the S bahn there and it would be a last hurrah before the new units came in. We did quite well for new locos in the end and, sort of fittingly, ended the day on one of the aforementioned new units though cannot really pass comment on it as we were only on it for two minutes (quite long enough in our opinion!)
